Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on the sidelines of his State Visit to Seychelles, reviewing progress in the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership and discussing ways to further expand cooperation in key sectors, including defence, energy, cyber security, capacity building and skills development.

Sharing details of the meeting in a post on social media platform X, Modi described the interaction as productive and noted it was their second meeting this year after their discussions during the AI Summit earlier in 2026. “Had an excellent meeting with Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the Prime Minister of Mauritius. We met at the start of the year during the AI Summit and now we have the chance to meet in Seychelles,” the Prime Minister said.

He said the two leaders reviewed the growing bilateral relationship and expressed satisfaction over the steady progress made under the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between India and Mauritius.
“We discussed ways to strengthen the India-Mauritius partnership. The progress being made across every area of our Enhanced Strategic Partnership is a matter of satisfaction for us. A number of projects are being implemented under our Special Economic Package,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that both sides also explored future areas of collaboration aimed at further deepening the longstanding partnership. “We also discussed the way ahead with regard to sectors such as capacity building, skilling, defence, energy, cybersecurity, and more,” Modi said.

India and Mauritius enjoy close historical, cultural and economic ties, with New Delhi remaining one of the island nation’s principal development partners. India has supported Mauritius through major infrastructure projects, capacity-building initiatives, maritime security cooperation and financial assistance, while the two countries have continued to deepen collaboration under the Enhanced Strategic Partnership. The latest meeting between the two leaders underscores the shared commitment to broadening cooperation across strategic and emerging sectors as India strengthens its engagement with Indian Ocean island nations.
